Rin's 3 Step Guide To Sexy Curls (for women with naturally super curly hair)

As a woman with curly hair finding hair products can be a bit of a struggle or so I had always been told. After years of experimentation with my hair I have finally found the solution to create the perfect curls that are soft to look and touch, tangle free, sculpted, shiny, smell great, and best of all are VERY affordable to obtain and even easier to maintain. Now I know that all of this may sound too good to be true but believe me when I tell you that it really does work! I could not believe how long I had over looked and over paid for products that made my hair shrivel up and look dry creating what I call "the crusty curl" which is a definite no no and trust me when someone asks to touch your hair and it feels like a cemented brick it is beyond embarrassing.
You do not have to spend a lot of money to create manageable curls that you and everyone around you can't resist. I personally always preferred that my hair has a nice healthy bounce and gloss to it but also wanted it to be moisturized. I always felt like you could have one or the other but to ask for all of these things seemed impossible.
STOP!!! Stop wasting your time and money on expensive so called "ethnic" products that claim to give you the curls you want. There's no need to ever step foot into another hair salon, or pricey beauty store for an endless disappointment of products with claims that do not deliver for your curls. As a woman of African descent you have to understand what your hair craves. Curly hair is very unique in itself and requires some things that are very and vastly different and often times polar opposite of our counterparts with hair that is more fine and straight.
I promise you and you have my word that if we share the same hair texture these are the only products you will EVER need. SO say bye bye to bad hair days, curls that don't last, smelly hair products, and crusty hardened curls. You will get tired of the seemingly endless amounts of compliments you receive from people of every race, color and hair texture. People will want to (and can) smell and touch your hair. You will almost feel like a celebrity with everyone asking "what did you do to your hair, Is that all yours, Is it naturally like that, Your hair smells so good what do you use". And believe me it feels great and really does smell amazing and everything you need can be purchased for less than $20! Maybe I should rename this to to "Sexy Budget Curls". While I had no intention in the products being cheap and was simply looking through my collection of hair products in a rush to style my hair before work since I had lazily washed it the night before and was too lazy to straighten my hair and style it (and probably needed to give my hair a break from all the damage too) I quickly put together these fabulous finds that I had used before in the past but never together.
The result was a new way to care for and style my curls creating what I confidently believe to be the perfect combination for us super curly girls.
I will issue a disclaimer...These products are my personal favorites as they deliver the best results ever out of my own personal experience and they work great for hair that has been color treated, has been damaged or if you are going naturally and on a journey to re growing your hair this is for you. However do keep in mind that different women have different hair textures so what works for me may not work for you. My hair has very pronounced curls commonly refereed to as "wavy" hair among Black women. While I believe this can be a great combination of products for all women of color I can only speak for my women who possess the same hair type as me. The best part is when the hair dries it will stay bouncy, thick, and maintain a sculpted curl thanks to the grease and oil in your hair.

So Let's Get To It!

This Is The Look You Will Achieve

Soft Sexy Hydrated Curls

This is the best hair oil ever! It has a great smell I promise you and everyone around you will love it!

This blends perfectly with the olive oil and works magic in hydrating your hair

all 4 of these products  smell great and work perfectly together. All you need is the shampoo and conditioner for hair that's soft tangle free and smells great

Supplies
Hair Ties
Large Towel
Wig Brush
Wide tooth Comb
Fine Tooth Comb with Tail
Hair accessories/ Hair Clip etc. (optional)

Everything you need for this can be purchased at your local Walmart or online
Because some of these products are ethnic such as the grease and oil you have to find a Walmart that is located in a mostly African-American neighborhood and will therefore carry a wider selection of these products. If you don't live in one already (like me who lives in anew almost 100% Caucasian neighborhood) you can purchase these online on Walmart.com or Amazon.com product name and descriptions are listed above.

Of course you can always substitute these products for others but these deliver the best combination or curl control and leave your hair moisturized feeling clean and most importantly soft and smelling great. There is literally no catch to this ladies!

THE PROBLEM
Dry hair is the root of all evil! So hydrate your hair and end the war on unruly locks.
1.) Your hair is naturally dry.
This means that it takes time for it to become oily and dirty thus you should keep washing your hair to a minimum.
THE SOLUTION
Deep wash your curls once a week and no more than twice (unless absolutely necessary I recommend a once a week wash). Be sure to scratch your scalp to remove dirt oils and dandruff from your hair both before and as you wash since it is easier to remove hair debris once it has been moistened by the water. Brush your hair and part your hair into 2 sections like you are a school girl with pigtails. Brush and comb out your hair.Lather your hair in shampoo and massage your scalp then rinse with warm/hot water.

THE PROBLEM
2.) Your hair need moisture.
The pattern of your curls and hair texture makes it very difficult for the natural oils your scalp produces to reach the lengths of your beautiful hair. Your hair needs some extra help to avoid breakage and split ends.
THE SOLUTION
Wash and Condition your hair daily. After you wash (rinse you hair) with hot water apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair starting with the middle of your hair and then your ends as these areas are often times the driest parts for women with. After applying the conditioner distribute it through your hair by finger combing the conditioner through the lengths of your hair with your hands. Let your hair absorb this moisture for 2-5 minutes.Next rinse your hair with warm cold (mostly cold) water. Once all of the conditioner is out and the water is running mostly clear squeeze and ring your hair dry. Next wrap your hair in a towel. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT comb your hair, blow dry it or apply any form of heat to your hair and do not drag the towel through your curls simply hug the curls with your towel. I highly recommend

THE PROBLEM
3.) Your hair needs some Stylin'.
Now that your all cleaned up let's make your hair irresistible to others.
THE SOLUTION
While hair is still damp remove the towel and let get to stylin! Part your hair into a natural or side part if you would like bangs or plan to wear it down naturally. (if not simply pull the hair back out of your face before applying moisture. Next apply a small amount of hair grease to the palm of your hand and mix in a generous (but small) amount of  oil to your hands. Rub your hands together to mix the products together lightly then distribute the 2 throughout the lengths of your hair by gently scrunching your curls and applying it to the top of your hair (do not comb brush or finger comb your hair during this process). Fell free to twist and twirl your curls with your finger as you scrunch to get more definition and give your hair body.

Expert Tips!
#1 Be sure to apply this concoction to the middle of your hair and ends first before applying lightly to your edges and roots since you do not want to clog your pores, have greasy looking hair or break out in acne if your have acne prone skin like I myself.
#2 Use a Satin or Silk pillow case to protect your hair from breakage. Try to avoid wearing knit and cotton fabric and wear your hair in up dos that do not pull at the hair or cause stress and strain to it but that also keeps your hair from rubbing up against fabrics that are not hair friendly and can snag it like cottons and polyesters which seem to be hair magnet in a rather negative way.

Your all done! As you have probably noted I have purposefully not mentioned the brand name products in my "3 Step Guide" so you can follow these steps and substitute for your own brand names which will come in handy if for any reason you can't find them at your local retailer, beauty store or live somewhere that does not allow the delivery of these products to your location.

Remember the goal is to apply products that provide your hair with light amounts of oil that allow your scalp to breath and that do not weigh your hair down. Be sure to scratch your scalp to remove dandruff and product build up after you comb out your curls and while you are washing you hair.

Planet Tokyo

I promised myself that I would pay respects to my favorite childhood song and tittle this post after Hihi Puffy Ami Yumi's song Planet Tokyo. Yes I know I'm a lame and it is cheesy generic and "weabooish" but whatever, sue me (please don't)!
Anyway as you may have guessed it already I have arrived in Japan. I got here Wednesday evening December 14 (Japan time). I made it here safely with a few bumps in the road but I am fine now.

To me, Tokyo is very similar to New York to me. It is very fast paced, fashionable and filled with colors and lights. There are always lots of people out and about regardless of the time of day.
Tokyo is like it's own little-big world. There is so much to see and do. The option are overwhelming and the smells delicious. I am so envious of all of the cute outfits the women wear here. I can't wait to go shopping myself once I have more money and time.

So far I am loving just about every moment of being here but some new challenges have shown up.
Even although I have only been here for a moment I feel lonely and invisible.

I enjoy the new found freedom of being an adult and living and venturing alone but it is also a bit scary too.

I am enjoying trying new foods and being less picky due to my limited ability to understand what it is that I am eating.
I have officially confirmed that natto is NOT edible!
On the bright side there are a lot of yummy sweets here! I haven't eaten any "real food" here yet just bentos form grocery and convenience stores but I plan to very soon.

While I may have just gotten here I am satisfied to the point where if I were to die at this very moment. I would be okay with that. I honestly don't believe that anymore good will happen to me. I have had such a rough childhood I finally feel as though it was all worth it, even that does mean being alone forever.

There is so much more that I would like to do.

I am short on time but will share some pictures and videos with you guys soon!

Thank you for supporting me!

A New Beginning

The change is so close that it has yet to become real. In about a week I will have a new start. A new beginning in seemingly a new world. Everything that I have once said out of anger and cried into my pillow will become a dream of a sweet reality.
I am starting over in a new way. I vow from this day onward to never look back ever again.
Everyone may not support me on my journey to finding myself but that's okay!
I 'd feel more at home in a land where my genetic makeup is just about as imperfect as it gets than in a land where I have been abused and imprisoned both mentally and physically on levels that one simply could not imagine.
Sometimes the best way to move on is to simply be reborn in a land in which nobody knows your name, who you are, or where you have come from.
I can't wait to make new friends and indulge in a new culture and act out a new language.
Here I come Japan!
